Windows
Program of choice
Whichever system you are using you will need to download a copy of Skype. Skype is a free service that allows you to make video calls to anyone in the world. We have found this to be the best in picture and sound quality while still being free to our users.
Internet speed requirements
Your computer should be connected to a high speed internet connection like cable or DSL. As well, you should be connected to the Internet via an Ethernet cable instead of a wireless connection.
Important: In order to have the highest quality experience please check that all Peer to Peer (P2P) file sharing programs are not running while taking your lesson. This includes the use of Xbox or other multi-player games and systems.
To connect your equipment, in general, you will need to plug a USB cable from your equipment into your computer.
Here is what your setup might look like:
Step #2 - Tune In
Skype setup
After downloading and installing the Skype, double click the Skype icon to load the program. On a Mac you'll be able to find the Skype icon in your dock. Once loaded you will see this screen.
Log into Skype
If you have already signed up for a free Skype account enter your Skype name and password into the appropriate box. If not, you can register for a Skype account right from the login screen by clicking the link below the Skype name text box. Once registered and logged into Skype you will see this screen.
Test your settings
At this point you can now make your first Skype call. When you first install Skype your only contact will be the Skype call testing service. Before using this service turn on your equipment. Now, click on the the Skype call testing service contact and then click the green phone icon located within that contact. Follow the instructions given by the voice.
Congratulations you have now made your first Skype call.
