Noisemaking 101 - Creating an Instrument in Sibelius

Most tasks in Sibelius have a few different ways to achieve success. To add or create an instrument in Sibelius there are two ways to do this. Lets get started with the first way now.

Option 1

Step 1

With a score open press the letter I on your keyboard to open the instrument pane. Alternatively you can go to the Create Menu and select Instrument.

Step 2

In the instrument pane choose the instrument you would like to add to your score by selecting it in the middle of the three boxes. You might have to find it within the instrument group first. You can do that by selecting the instrument group on the left side of the instrument pane.

Step 3

Once you have selected you instrument click add to score.

Step 4

Sibelius will automatically place the instrument in your score in a position that it thinks will be best. Sometimes Sibelius places the instrument incorrectly or you might prefer it to be in a different place.

To do this, select the instrument you would like to move in the right most box. After selecting the instrument click the up or down button depending on where you want to move the instrument.

Step 5

Close the instrument pane by click Okay

Option 2

This option is exactly the same as the first option only you will add your instruments when you create a new score.

When you are asked what ensemble you would like while setting up your score, choose blank page and then at the bottom of the list click change instruments. The instrument pane will show up and then just follow the instructions for option 1.
